Guests will enjoy entertainment from comedians Laurie Kilmartin, Brent Weinbach, Kellen Erskine, Casey Ley, Dan St. Paul, Joe Klocek, and hosts Jill Bourque and Brian Copeland. In The New York Times, Chloe Veltman said of NOT YOUR NORMAL NEW YEAR’S EVE, “I was thoroughly entertained.” The show features one-of-a-kind entertainment by nationally- renowned stand-up comics. Laurie Kilmartin, currently a writer for TBS’s Conan, has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Comedy Central, and Showtime, as well as on The Rachel Maddow Show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, VH1’s Best Week Ever, and Oprah. She has written for CBS’s The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central’s Too Late with Adam Carolla, and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, as well as NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Brent Weinbach, known for his physical and absurdist comedic style, is winner of the Andy Kaufman Award, which is given out once a year to recognize innovation in stand-up comedy. He has appeared on Conan, Lopez Tonight, Comedy Central, HBO, and IFC, and toured with the Comedians of Comedy. A past finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, Kellen Erskine was featured on Season 7 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent and has performed across the United States in comedy clubs, most recently at the Great American Comedy Festival held in Johnny Carson’s hometown of Norfolk, Nebraska. San Francisco comic and radio personality Casey Ley has been featured in festivals including SF Sketchfest, SXSW, Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, OR, and the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, TX. His comedy has appeared on NPR and he was voted the Bay Area’s “Best Comic” by readers of SF Weekly in 2012. He is the host and creator of the popular San Francisco show This Feels Wrong and a weekly comedy game show called Mayhem Trivia. Dan St. Paul has appeared on numerous comedy shows on VH-1, MTV, and Comedy Central, and has opened for such superstars as Jerry Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Dwight Yoakum, Smokey Robinson, Vince Gill, and the San Francisco Symphony. A runner-up in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and the Seattle Comedy Competition, Joe Klocekhas been featured on NPR’s Snap Judgment, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and was voted “Best Comic” in the 2011 SF Weekly Readers’ Poll.
This rollicking New Year’s party will be hosted by Bay Area comic favorites Jill Bourque and Brian Copeland. A stand-up comedian, improviser, and producer, Bourque created the international hit improv show How We First Met in 2001, which has played in San Francisco and other cities worldwide each year on Valentine’s Day. As a performer, she has brought her unique style and off-kilter characters to clubs, festivals, and theatres all over the world, including Marines’ Memorial Theatre, The Plush Room, Bay Area Theatresports, Eureka Theater, Liquid Soap, Crystal Cruises, SF Sketchfest, Chicago Improv Festival, Los Angeles Improv Festival, and San Francisco Improv Festival. Also a regular on KGO radio’s Headliner on the Headlines with Brian Copeland, Bourque can be seen doing an improvised TV wedding on TLC’s Four Weddings and giving the funny low-down on parenting on Scripp’s new interactive online network, ulive.com.
Brian Copeland has been in show business since he first stepped on the comedy stage at age 18. Soon he was headlining clubs and concerts across the country and opening for such artists as Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Ringo Starr, and the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, in venues from The Universal Amphitheater to Constitution Hall in Washington DC. Soon, Copeland branched off into television, appearing on comedy programs on NBC, A&E and MTV. He spent five years as co-host of San Francisco FOX affiliate KTVU breakfast program Mornings on 2 and two years hosting San Francisco ABC affiliate KGO’s Emmy Award-winning afternoon talker 7Live, and is a featured commentator on HLN TV’s Dr. Drew On Call. In 1995, ABC affiliate KGO Radio premiered The Brian Copeland Show. Its unique mix of talk and entertainment soon made it the most listened to program in its time slot. Copeland branched out into theatre in 2004 with his first solo play Not a Genuine Black Man, and has gone on to create more critically-acclaimed solo theatre shows including The Waiting Period, The Jewelry Box, and The Scion, receiving its World Premiere in January 2014.
Innovative music mashups will be created live at NOT YOUR NORMAL NEW YEAR’S EVE by internationally-renowned Brazilian DJ Lucio K. Using driving rhythm tracks, hundreds of instruments, and voices, Lucio K creates his mashups live and on stage, resulting in an explosion of energetic pop music infused with rock, reggae, hip-hop, swing, electronica, soul, acoustic, and other elements. Now a resident of Oakland, Lucio K made his debut in his native Brazil in 2010 before going on to perform in Europe and the United States.
